Bowbender Magazine
1984-1997

For 13 years, Bowbender Magazine was Canada's Archery Magazine.  It began in the basement of the Windsor Family home in Carstairs, Alberta, originally targeting the Alberta market but immediately expanding to open up markets to the entire nation.  Over the course of these 13 years articles focussed solely on topics of interest to archers, whether it be big game, bowfishing, or simply anecdotes and entertainment.

Archives and Tribute

My part in the history of this magazine was stuffing envelopes and licking stamps to send copies to subscribers, but all three generations of Windsors were involved.  Now that the patriarch and matriarch of the family have passed, I felt called to pay tribute to a significant part of my life with them.  Over time I intend to do so by archiving and paying tribute to this aspect of their worldly contributions.

Broadhead Bill

Broadhead Bill was a regular columnist in Bowbender Magazine.  His stories were often verbose and comical.  These articles were certainly a reader-favourite as he became known as a patriarch of the Bowbender family.

Broadhead Bill, known otherwise as Bill Windsor, passed away peacefully after a long life well-lived on January 6, 2022.  He was predeceased by his wife Ruth (May 1, 2021) who was a regular inclusion in his articles.  You can pay tribute to Bill below.

The Archives and Tributes

Over time the intent is to republish the entirety of the Bowbender Magazine here for your enjoyment, and to pay tribute to this publication that taught many about what it means to be an archer in Canada.

Please note, this is a labour of love of mine, and while you should expect regular updates to these archives, it is a volunteer activity only.  I hope you enjoy this history as much as I do.
